The gaffer has his say

Tim Flowers on the game and result...

"It was a first half of little quality. Plenty of endeavour, but neither side had any real cutting edge.

"Dover paid us the respect because they matched us up with four of the biggest lads I’ve ever seen across the back – they were huge.

"You’ve got to compete, you’ve got to put your body on the line and be a man. I thought we did.

"It’s a fantastic result for us. I thought we were dealt a couple of bad hands in the last couple of games.

"The lads that came in showed terrific character and commitment to the club.

"It’s away from home and this is a tough place to come, make no mistake about it. They’ve always had good players here and Chris (Kinnear) has always had some really good players in his squad.

"I do think it’s a tough, physical division. There’s one or two teams that have a little bit extra but, mostly, anyone can beat anyone in this league.

"We’ve proved that and we’ve also been beat a couple of times. To take six wins out of the first 11 games, I’d have torn your hands off before the season for that."

Tim Flowers on winning without key players...

"It’s hard enough as it is without your skipper and your left back and then Adi (Yussuf) had a problem against Hartlepool last week.

"He’s gradually felt better and better this week but we decided not to risk him. He said he felt today that he could be a used sub which was handy.

"Luke’s (Maxwell) been carrying that calf all week, he’s pulled out of training a couple of times with it really stiff and then felt better with intensive treatment and ice.

"He said he thought he could (start) and then straight away he was struggling so we had to make that change.

"Corey’s (O’Keeffe) come on there and worked tremendously hard. He’s got quality and he’s got to learn what to do out of possession at times, but he’s a real genuine kid and I’m delighted that we’ve managed to bring him in.

"The two centre halves were magnificent – they look a real good pair. Every time I ask George (Carline) to play in a position that isn’t his preferred, he fits in. That’s the kind of lads I’ve got in the squad.

"I thought they were outstanding, they all were. Jamma (Jermaine Hylton) got his goal so I’m delighted for him.

"It’s a great result for us off the back of the two games we’ve just had which irritated me a little bit because I didn’t think the lads deserved that.

"They managed to answer that one and we now face back-to-back home games."

Tim Flowers on the magnificent support from the away following...

"I was looking for them and then I noticed they were in the home end. When you look at it, they’ve had a camel ride up to Barrow and then on the Tuesday night they’ve had to go to Orient.

"And then Dover – it took us personally four-and-a-half hours to get here this morning.

"I hope they enjoyed it. They’ve seen their team win on the road three times now and we thank them – they’re our extra man, if you like.

"Hopefully we can keep enticing more and more support, both home and away. The only way to do that is to win football matches, so at the minute we’re doing ok."

-Vision: To be competitive and strong performers at all levels both on and off the pitch.
