The lads showed massive heart and commitment

Tim Flowers on making it three wins from three…

“The three games have been immensely tough for different reasons. Aldershot are a possession-based passing side and are a very good side who have got to the play-offs.

“The way they set up caused us problems. It wasn’t a great game or it didn’t appear to be. The bottom line is trying to get some points on the board early because the club have been behind the eight ball really in the last couple of seasons and having to scrap long and hard.

“To get to that 50-point mark as quickly as you can is huge. We’ve had the best possible start, clearly – nine points out of nine, two clean sheets and a goal that was only a penalty down at Eastleigh.

“All in all we’ve got to be delighted. The lads showed massive heart and commitment at the end, digging in.”

Tim Flowers on players playing out of position and dealing with the threat of Aldershot…

“Darren Carter, who I asked on Thursday if he could play left-back and he said yes straight away – that’s a mark of the man. He’s a midfield player and a very good one who’s volunteered to play left-back for me today against a good player.

“George Carline will fill in anywhere for you at the drop of a hat. Those two have been magnificent today.

“We’ve got to take immense strength from the fact that we’ve managed to get the results on the board that we have done.

“They were getting a lot of possession and we were sagging away, allowing them to get a lot of the ball in the middle areas of the pitch.

“We got done by a few too many diagonals which we need to be reading that – clearly they were trying to switch the play to advanced full backs.

“Balls that were then going straight – Liam Daly has made a career out of dealing with that and Tyrone Williams.

“We had a bit of the rub of the green and we’ve picked up another very very valuable win.”

Tim Flowers on Danny Wright netting his first goal and his overall display…

“It’s not just his goal, it was his work-rate. He was non-stop, working the line, challenging, getting knocked over and getting up, closing down and he thoroughly deserved his goal.

“If Dan Sweeney got his head up and slipped him in, he’d have had a second late on. Danny was outstanding.

“The boys who came on did their part – Murphy and Sweeney, who are forward-type players, did very well.”

Tim Flowers on stretching his squad to the max…

“It’s a squad game. At the minute, we’re absolutely bare bones – as you can see by the selection.

“We’ve got a few men down and everybody’s played their part. Could we do with a few more bodies? Probably, but we’re just going to solider on with what we’ve got.

“It’s very much touch and go. Jamie Reckord will be back because he’s only got a one-game suspension.

“I’m not sure about Gudger. He’ll be assessed on Monday. It was a nasty injury he had, so it’s only been seven, eight, nine days whatever it is.

“He’s a very good player and a miss. We’ve had to reshuffle and rejig it.”

Tim Flowers on the threat of the next opponents AFC Fylde…

“Fylde play a very fluid, passing, possession-based game. Massive threats up top with Rowe obviously – I think he scored today.

“The full-backs are very proactive getting forward and they knock it around. It’ll be a really tough game, so again we’ve got to reassess and regroup on Monday.

“It’ll be a light session because I’m scared to death of getting any more injuries. We’ll go up there and set our stall out and see what we can do.

“We got a point there last season and played well actually – could’ve scored a couple more. Who knows, but we’ve got a lot of spirit and that counts for a lot in this division.”
