Moors Stretch Unbeaten Run to Four!
Moors showed steeliness to earn a goalless draw against league leaders Sutton United and stretch their unbeaten run to four league games on Easter Monday.
Kyle Hudlin came closest to scoring for the Moors when U's keeper Dean Bouzanis' clearance, ricocheted back off the striker before narrowly clearing the crossbar.
It was at the other end of the pitch where Moors impressed, led by Tyrone Williams, the defence produced a solid display to achieve their fourth consecutive clean sheet.
Moors’ intentions to take the game to their visitors was clear right from the kick-off, skipper Kyle Storer looking to catch Bouzanis out with an effort from just inside his own half.
Bouzanis was forced to tip that one over before opposite number Ryan Boot was then called into action early on.
Sutton’s Isaac Olaofe sprinted clear, Boot raced off his line, Olaofe rounded him but took a tumble. The visitors appealed but no penalty was awarded and Olaofe was booked for his troubles.
In an entertaining first half, Moors put together several intricate passages of play as Hudlin up top on his own looked to link up with Joe Sbarra and Jamie Ward.
The biggest opening for the hosts fell to Reiss McNally who did well to lose his marker but he fired his effort wide following Jordan Cranston’s corner.
As for Sutton, Harry Beautyman thought he had opened the scoring but Williams on the cover did brilliantly to clear the goalbound effort off the line.
So goalless was how it remained at the break with the sides evenly matched. The second half again saw both teams battling hard for the win but goalmouth action was at a premium.
David Ajiboye looked to have snuck in at the back post, but a combination of Boot and Cranston kept the Sutton winger at bay. That was the nearest the U's came to breaking the deadlock as Moors' backline held strong.
It was a resilient showing from the hosts who are fast becoming a tough side to beat under Mark Yates' stewardship.
