Moors Win on the Road...

Adam Rooney helped fire Moors to a convincing 3-1 win at Aldershot Town in the National League on Tuesday night.

Rooney latched onto Jordan Cranston’s free-kick for Moors’ third after Jamie Ward and Alex Gudger’s first-half strikes had put Jimmy Shan’s side into the ascendency.

Moors conceded to Josh Rees late on but the damage was done on a very satisfying night for the visitors.

Tyrone Williams thought he had opened the scoring. But having bundled Ward’s corner into the net, the defender was deemed to have handled and the goal was ruled out.

However, it wasn’t long after that Moors did take the lead. Rooney the provider, teeing up Ward who cut inside before caressing the ball into the bottom corner.

It was no more than Moors deserved and they continued to dominate as the half wore on. Direct from corners, Jordan Cranston was very unlucky to be denied twice by the crossbar.

And it was from a Cranston set-piece that Moors grabbed their second in first-half stoppage time. Defender Gudger firing in after the ball had dropped invitingly to him in the area.

A striker’s finish and one matched by Rooney on the hour. The striker shaking off a Shots defender before turning the ball into the roof of the net following Cranston’s free-kick.

The interval hadn’t stifled Moors’ momentum and the third goal came as no surprise. At both ends of the pitch, Shan’s men continued to dominate.

Rooney looked to have nodded home his second of the game, but celebrations were cut short after the Irishman had been accused of a push in the build-up.

Aldershot did grab a scrappy late consolation through Rees. Moors keeper Ryan Boot appeared to have been impeded but the appeals were waved away and the goal given.

In the dying moments of the game, substitute Joe Sbarra found Rooney who saw his shot tipped onto the bar by Walker, denying the striker the chance to double his tally.

So 3-1 was how it stayed. A valuable three points on the road and plenty for Moors boss Shan to take into Saturday’s trip to Weymouth.
