Moors Academy 0 NKF Burbage 1
*Ronald Crane reports from Tally Ho!*
PUBLISHED: 9th Apr 18

At the start of play, visitors NKF Burbage were top and on course to gain a second consecutive promotion, MAFC were down in 11th place.

Sam Manoocheri kept the starting eleven that did so well against Coton Green. But from the off, it was the visitors who took the game by the scruff of the neck. Inside the opening fifteen minutes Hill was forced to make a good save, before Sephton made a mistake and the ‘Keeper had to recover possession.

The visiting bench was extremely vocal, but the home side gradually played their way into the game, but for the first twenty minutes Burbage were on top. However when the Moors did manage to get forward there was a terrible mix–up at the back for Burbage. The Young Moors tried to take advantage with two shots, both blocked; followed by a wonderful cross from the left that the front men were unable to latch on to.

The home crowd screamed when the visitors put in some naughty tackles, but the tide was turning. Ethan Sephton won the ball in mid-field and drove forward before forcing a save from the visitors Hill. Both Ashanti and Shuja caused problems for Burbage and the nose from their bench had a touch of panic at the break.

Sure enough, Burbage made a change for the re-start, bringing on Jake Garner. Moors were doing much better playing toward the Road End and Burbage had some defending to do. With the home side on top, the Moors played themselves into trouble, giving away a needless corner from which Matt Hill missed the ball for Storer to power it into the net.

Not to be deterred, Moors set about getting the equalizer. Shuje robbed his man and passed on to Ashanti who did not get to ball fast enough and the Goalie cleared. Josh Parsons tried his luck from distance, but the effort was saved.

The visitors were very lucky when both Barwick and Nathan Astill were booked for nasty fouls, only to commit almost the same offence with the next play. Referee Bayliss was content just to award the free kick in each case.

Moors Academy did more than enough to share the points, and but for that one error, they would have done so. The cheers o=from the visitors at the end, were of relief.
