Tranmere Rovers vs Solihull Moors Preview
*What to Expect Tomorrow when We visit Birkenhead*
PUBLISHED: 23rd Apr 18

Moors visit the Tranmere Rovers’ Prenton Park tomorrow (7.45 kick-off) in the Vanarama National League. Here’s your full pre-match preview from John Clothier.

Moors need just one point to secure their position in the National league whereas Tranmere will finish second and lead the play off candidates; they were still in with shout at the title last Saturday but Macclesfield’s win away to Eastleigh put pay to that

Form

Rovers have accumulated 82 points from 44 games. Moors have 51 points from the same number of matches played.

In their last six games Tranmere have won them all

Moors have won 3 and drawn 3.

In the Opposite Dugout

The man in charge of our hosts is 46 -year-old Mickey Mellon who played 45 games for West Brom,125 for Blackpool, 85 for Burnley and almost 200 for Tranmere in two different spells with the club.  In 2009, he was made full-time manager of Fleetwood, and led the club to the Conference via the play offs. Fleetwood then won the 2011–2012 Conference National attaining 103 points in the process. He left in 2012 with the club in 4th place of League Division 2.

After a spell at Barnsley, Mickey was appointed as the manager of Shrewsbury Town in 2014, and quickly lead them back to Division one He left Shrewsbury in 2016 when appointed manager of Tranmere.

Opposition Key Man

Steve McNulty (born 26 September 1983) is the captain of Tranmere Rovers. He has achieved four promotions with three different clubs: captaining Barrow into the Conference Premier and Fleetwood Town into both the Conference Premier and League Two, and as part of the Luton Town team that won promotion to League Two in the 2013–14 season. He would dearly love to make it five with Tranmere!

McNulty is a commanding centre-back, noted for his aerial ability. His first-touch and calmness on the ball add to his leadership qualities. Not the youngest member of the squad but his reading of the game is second to none

A quote from Mark Yates

“It’s not mathematical yet but we don’t concede many goals and if we keep it that way we should be fine

Everyone will be expecting that it’s three points to them - we’ve got to make sure that doesn’t happen”.

The Last Time the Two Sides Met

We last played Tranmere in the FA Trophy and after a match abandoned at the ATG due to floodlight failure, we tried again and came out with a 2 – 0 victory. In the three league matches we have lost them all and have still to score our first goal against the “Rovers”

Did You Know?

Tranmere Rovers was founded in 1884 as Belmont Football Club and they adopted their current name in 1885. They were a founder member of Division Three North in 1921, and were a member of The Football League until 2015, when they were relegated to the National League,

During the 1980s, they were beset by financial problems and, in 1987, went into administration. However, this was a prelude to the most successful period in Tranmere's history; under manager John King, the team reached the play-offs for promotion to the Premier League in three successive seasons. Under King's successor, John Aldridge, Tranmere experienced a number of cup runs, most notably reaching the 2000 Football League Cup Final.

The club moved to its current home, Prenton Park, in 1912. In 1995, the ground had a major redevelopment in response to the Taylor Report. It now seats 16,567 in four stands
