Preview: Sutton United vs Solihull Moors
*A look ahead to tomorrow's Vanarama National League encounter - by Luke Turner*
PUBLISHED: 9th Mar 18

Solihull Moors travel to title chasing Sutton United in the Vanarama National League tomorrow (Saturday 10th March - 3pm). Here’s your full match preview…

The Moors remain in 21st place in the table whilst our opponent’s sit 2nd, only two points behind leaders Macclesfield Town.

Form

Our hosts are on a terrific run of form, winning three on the bounce and without defeat in their last 10 league games. Their last two National League encounters have been at Gander Green Lane, where they won 4-0 (v Guiseley) and 2-0 (v Woking).

Mark Yates’ men have lost just twice in their last 10 games, as five wins during that time have helped move the side to within just two points of safety. However, Moors haven’t played since the 0-0 draw with Wrexham (two-and-a-half weeks ago) due to two match postponements.

In the opposite dugout

Paul Doswell is the longest serving manager in the league having been in charge at the U’s since May 2008. The 51-year-old celebrated his 500th game as manager of Sutton in October 2016.

He led them to the National League South title in 2015/16 as they were crowned champions with a game to spare, beating Chelmsford City 2-0.

Opposition key man

Top scorer for tomorrow’s hosts is Tommy Wright. The highly-rated youngster has 11 goals to his name so far this campaign and has also netted four from his last seven outings.

A quote from the Gaffer

Mark Yates: “We’ve got to take care of our own business. I know that I’ve got enough in that dressing room, we have plenty to stay up.”

The last time the two sides met

Sutton claimed all three points back in November as they ran out 2-0 winners at the Automated Technology Group Stadium.

Goals from Ross Lafayette and Craig Dundas sealed the victory against a Moors side under the guidance of interim boss Gary Whild.

Did you know?

Sutton’s first game back in the fifth tier of English football since 2000 ended in defeat. It was in fact against Solihull Moors who were playing in the division for the first time ever. The Moors won 3-1 thanks to goals from Ryan Beswick, Omari Sterling-James and Andy Brown.
