*Our first ever Moors v Moors game*
PUBLISHED: 12th Jan 18

We have a look ahead to tomorrow’s Buildbase FA Trophy second round match away to Spennymoor Town who sit fourth in the National League North, which to put it into perspective, is just seven places below us in the non-league pyramid!

It is our first visit to the “Brewery Field” and the first time ever the Moors have played the “Moors”.

Where is Spennymoor Town

The Brewery Field, Wood Vue, Spennymoor, County Durham, DL16 6JN.

The town is about 10 miles south of Durham and about as far as Hartlepool from Solihull in terms of distance.

Spennymoor had back to back wins against Blyth Spartans in the Christmas/ New Year Derby games which saw them leap frog their illustrious (near) neighbours in the league. Last Saturday they picked up all the points in a hard fought win away to Bradford Park Avenue, also contenders for a play off position. Due to frozen pitch problems their first round game in this competition against lowly Gainsborough Trinity did not take place until last Tuesday but Spennymoor edged that in a thrilling penalty shoot out, the score after extra time being 4 – 4.

We have taken 7 points from our last three league games – our best form all season and of course we triumphed over Tranmere Rovers in our first round match in the Trophy.

In the Opposition Dugout

Jason Ainsley played in the Football League for Hartlepool United and has been manager of Spennymoor Town since 2007. In the 600 plus games since then he has seen his club win four promotions, five league titles, two domestic cups and the FA Vase in 2013. He is 47 years old and was born in nearby Stockton on Tees.

Jason is a former player and captain of Spennymoor Town.

Opposition Key man

Glen Taylor has already scored 14 goals this season, his third at Spennymoor. He is a big, strong, and technically adept goal scorer and a former FA Vase winner with Whitley Bay. He scored more than 100 goals for Ashington.

Last season, he notched 19 goals and secured his place at the Jamie Vardy Academy over the summer where he trained with our Oladapo Afolayan.

A Quote from the Gaffer

"We are taking this game very seriously – it is a great opportunity for the club to get on a run with, albeit a long way off, a chance of Wembley Stadium.

"We have watched Spennymoor Town- they are winning games, scoring goals and will provide tough opposition. We have to carry on being professional in our approach to the match and are looking forward to it. I anticipate having a full squad available tomorrow."

Did You Know

Spennymoor Town FC was born in the summer of 2005 following the demise of    Spennymoor United AFC.

Their social club was burned to the ground in an arson attack on Christmas Day 2003 and from then on the club had no income.  In 2005 they could not fulfil their fixtures and Spennymoor United AFC were removed from the UniBond League. The club sadly went out of existence after 101 years of senior soccer.

Not identical but eerily like Moor Green!
