Preview: Macclesfield Town vs Solihull Moors
*Moors Travel to Top of the Table Silkmen*
PUBLISHED: 5th Jan 18

A look ahead to tomorrow's National League encounter from John Clothier.

Solihull Moors visit the Moss Rose ground tomorrow afternoon (3pm kick-off) to take on Macclesfield Town in the Vanarama National League. Here’s your full match preview…

Moors are at last off the bottom of the league, while the hosts sit at the top, six points clear of the play-off contenders.

Form

The Silkmen took all nine points in their last three games and have only lost twice since mid September. They have found the net on 34 occasions and conceded 25 in return.

Moors secured 2 wins in the three games over the festive period away at Barrow and home to Maidenhead. In the ten games under the stewardship of Mark Yates we have now taken 12 points plus the FA Trophy win over Tranmere Rovers.

In the Opposite Dugout

John Askey played 409 times for the Silkmen between 1984 - 2003. He had a spell in the hot seat in 2004 and then stayed on as Assistant manager returning to the top job in 2013.

Last season he took the club to the FA Trophy final at Wembley where they were beaten 3–2 by York City.

Opposition Key Man

Scott Wilson has notched 11 goals already this season. Moors fans may remember him at Eastleigh. He scored a hat trick back in December against Wrexham which took his team to the top of the league.

A Quote from the Gaffer

“I think we’ve let in five goals in 10 games since we’ve been here, so the boys are doing something. I see a group that are fighting for each other, are fighting for the shirt and the club and they’re making every game competitive Their competitive edge and their work rate is right up there - it’s just important that we continue that.”

The Last Time the two sides Met

Earlier this season we looked as if we might get something from the home game but having glided passed two defenders, a smooth finish on the hour mark from Wilson put pay to that.

Did you know?

Macclesfield Town is 143 years old. They were members of the Football league between 1997 and 2012   Former Manchester United star Sammy McIlroy took charge at the start of the 1993–94 season, and guided the club to the Football Conference championship in his second season as manager. However. the club was denied promotion to the Football League because the Moss Rose did not meet league requirements. They won the Conference title again two seasons later in 1996–97, by which time the stadium had been upgraded and they were promoted to Division Three of the Football League in place of Hereford United.
