Mark Yates reacts to Leyton Orient victory
*'The lads were tremendous today' - by Luke Turner*

Solihull Moors manager Mark Yates applauded the performance of his team after they won for the first time under his stewardship.

Liam Daly’s second-half header was enough to down Leyton Orient in a game that The Moors thoroughly deserved to come away with the three points.

Yates said: “It feels great, the lads were tremendous today. It was a total 90 minute performance and we should’ve been four or five up in the first-half.

“Sometimes when that happens and you haven’t scored it’s hard to get going again in the second-half, but we were terrific.

“With better finishing that game could’ve been anything to be fair. We defended when we had to, our keeper’s made one good save first-half and come and dealt with things when he’s had to – we played like a team.

“It was a terrific defensive performance and the front players worked their socks off – they set the tempo for our closing down and our pressing. For a team bottom of the table, we were really good today.”

The returning Jamey Osborne and Daly shared the man of the match honours, but Paul Green’s display wasn’t one that went unnoticed.

“He was great. He felt his calf before the game and I got told at quarter to three that he was not going to start, but he’s a soldier, he’s a warrior,” Yates continued.

“He did ever so well without the ball but with the ball he kept it simple and it was a really good team performance. We created lots of chances and limited them to very few.

“We’re still bottom of the table so it’s just a building block on top of another. I think the fans have just enjoyed the performance.

“I said to my players, give me that every week, give me that effort and do you know what, in four games they’ve given me everything.

“I asked for a little bit of quality, I thought we showed little bits of quality today and we’re going to keep asking for more.”

Yates has made a decent start to life as Moors manager, but insists that there’s still a long way to go and plenty of work to be done.

“There are plenty of games to go and we have to believe. There’s a lot to do, one game doesn’t all of a sudden mean that we’re sorted – we’ve got some serious work to do.

“The board, the staff, the players – they’re up for it. They’ve let me bring in a few players and we’re going to keep looking. We need to keep improving as a club, as a team and we’ll do everything we can to get us further up the table. We’ll work hard and we’ll give it a right good go.”

There was also a special mention for Osborne who completed 87 minutes on his return to The Automated Technology Group Stadium and marked his stamp on the game.

“I thought he was great. He gave us a little bit of assurance on the ball, a little bit of quality and could’ve got a couple of goals I think at the back stick.

“He’s going to get better over the month, we know that. I’m just really pleased with them all, there’s not any one hero but just a big team effort has got us a good three points.”
