*The Moors fall to a two-goal defeat - by Luke Turner*
PUBLISHED: 11th Nov 17

Goals either side of half-time from Ross Lafayette and Craig Dundas were enough to defeat Solihull Moors as Sutton United took all three points away from The Automated Technology Group Stadium.

Sutton had the ball in the net early on as Tom Bolarinwa crossed for Dundas who headed past Nick Townsend – luckily for The Moors, the offside flag was up.

Townsend was then called into action just minutes later. A long ball over the top wasn’t dealt with and Lafayette forced the Moors stopper into a low save.

It took the home side the best part of 25 minutes before they registered their first effort on goal, a towering George Carline header doing little to trouble Jamie Butler.

The U’s then went back up the other end as some smart work from Lafayette resulted in the ball being set on a plate for Kieron Cadogan, but the wing man fired high and wide.

On the half hour mark, the deadlock was broken by the visitors. Some slack defending from Solihull was pounced upon as Lafayette was threaded through before he fired past Townsend and into the back of the net.

It then took a fine saved from the man in between the Moors sticks to prevent the lead from being doubled by the same man, as a header was tipped over the bar.

Gary Whild’s men then came extremely close to levelling. A peach of a ball from James Bowen was met by the head of Carline who crashed his effort off the inside of the post, before a number of follow ups in the next passage of play were thwarted.

Half-time: Solihull Moors 0-1 Sutton United.

The Moors came flying out for the second-half and immediately created a golden opportunity. Carline did well with some smart play down the left before cutting back for the oncoming Darren Carter, who could only blaze over from 12 yards.

Sutton, who were always a threat on the attack, had their first sighter of the half with an almost perfectly hit effort from Cadogan that flew just over.

As the half grew on, chances became few and far between as Moors were the team on the hunt for a goal.

But it was Sutton who were next to threaten as Bolarinwa skipped away from Bowen down the right-hand side and crossed for the dangerous Lafayette who got underneath the ball and watched it sail over.

Moors continued to push but had no joy as Paul Doswell’s side sealed the points with just a few minutes remaining. A ball over the top was latched onto by Dundas who made no mistake, curling past Townsend at his near post.

The home side were unable to find any reply and consequently found themselves on the wrong end of a fairly even game.
