Boreham Wood 4 Solihull Moors 1   Attendance 319

A perfect day greeted the players as they arrived at Meadow Park which now proudly boasts a 4G all weather pitch – the latest version. Moors were still without a number of key players and new signing Tahvor Campbell was not on the team sheet whilst he recovers from a slight knock.

Solihull needed to put Tuesday’s defeat at Leyton Orient behind them and having taken the lead on 33 minutes and were starting to look comfortable; however things turn round quickly in football!

Almost straight from the kick off a mix up between Connal Trueman and Fiacre Kelleher gifted the hosts a corner – this was curled into the box and undefended, Moors could have been a goal down as the ball rattled the cross bar.

Moors steadied themselves and George Carline went close on 9 minutes but his chip was safely taken by keeper Grant Smith.  The “Wood” were then denied a goal following a corner from which another free header was cleared on the line by Tom Tonks. A Solihull free kick from Darren Carter 35 yards out narrowly evaded the incoming Joel Kettle.

Luke Benbow got on the end of Carline’s through ball but Smith was well placed for the shot, whilst Shep Murombedzi’s pull back to Tonks was deflected for a corner.

Just passed the half hour mark Tonks unleashed a trademark long throw and after a goal mouth scramble Kelleher toe poked the ball into the back of the net. 0 – 1 to Moors

However, Solihull took their eyes off the ball and within a minute Boreham Wood were level as a corner caused mayhem in the box and despite heroics from Trueman the ball eventually fell for Turley whose shot hit the Moors keeper and crept into the far corner of the net. 1-1.

Five minutes later the unchallenged Andrade had an easy conversion from a cross and the hosts were in front. 2 -1. Paul Green’s timely tackle on Balanta prevented a one on one as Solihull tried to regroup.

The home team was rampant and on 43 minutes Moors found themselves further behind when Tonks could not connect properly with a high ball in the box which fell to Benson who volleyed home in style from close range. 3 – 1.

Half time could not come soon enough.

Liam McDonald made no changes as play resumed and for ten minutes it seemed as if the visitors had steadied the ship. However on 58 minutes Boreham Wood effectively wrapped up the points when the ball was pushed across the six yard box and Balanta was there for a simple tap in. 4 – 1.

Jack Edwards was on for Tonks as the hour mark approached and Tristian Dunkley replaced Benbow on 60 minutes, Dunkley was soon in the thick of things as he forced Smith into a panic clearance which rebounded off the advancing Moorsman just the wrong side of the post.  Darren Carter shot wide from 18 yards on 66 minutes whilst Trueman saved well from Keita.

As the final whistle beckoned Dunkley tried a low drive whilst Afolayan was clear on his right and when “Dapo” did make space for himself in the last minute of the game he blasted over.

Unfortunately the score line did not flatter the hosts  - they looked the stronger of the two sides and exploited their superiority through out the game with accurate crosses into the box which Moors struggled to defend. Despite their initial lead Solihull were ineffective in the final third.

Moors take on Barrow next Tuesday at the Automated Technology Group Stadium; The Bluebirds sit mid table  with four points from their opening three games – Moors having played 2 matches, are bottom.
