Community Moors round-up
*Our teams impress in the Peopleís Cup*
PUBLISHED: 1st Mar 17
Ability Counts:

Last Sunday (26th February) saw both premier elite teams begin their quest for glory in the FA People's Cup.

Solihull Moors Ď1í began with a 1-1 draw before finding their feet in the second group game where they recorded a 1-0 win. They then faced Coventry City in a fight for second place in the group. The match was taken to penalties to decide who would be facing Redditch in the final. Our nerves settled and we confidently saw Coventry off. In a tense final, it was Redditch who took the lead but Moors dug in and equalised in the last minute to take the match to penalties. The team confidently rose to the challenge and secured victory becoming local winners of the FA Peopleís cup!

Solihull Moors Ď2í made easy work of their group, beginning with a comprehensive 7-1 victory before taking wins in their second and third games. A tough game in the final unfortunately resulted in a penalty shoot-out loss as they finished runners-up, but it was an excellent effort from the team who stood up to the task and represented themselves fantastically well.

Regional finals for both teams await them. Our U16's start their campaign for the FA People's Cup on Sunday 4th March. Use the hashtag #PeoplesCup on Twitter to get involved!

Schools:

All of our current schools are back up and running after the half term. We are starting in a new school next week in the South Birmingham area. The Oaks Primary School have asked our coaches to go in and teach three sessions of football a week, two after School clubs and a breakfast club, along with the free 24-week period of fitness sessions hosted by our Moors vitality program.

Academy:

The trials that were held last week at Silhillians Club were extremely successful. We had over 100 trialists and the standard across the two days was very impressive. Donít worry if you missed out as there may be another chance over Easter, as we have had more applicants enquire since.

The U19s travelled to Tamworth FC today in the National League & ran out 1-4 winners after a superb performance. Goals from AJ Andrews (2), Nathan Hansard & Owen Satorious sealed the victory with centre back Ben Everitt putting in a colossal Man of the Match performance.

Social Inclusion:

The numbers for social inclusion have risen across the board since the introduction of first team captain Liam Daly. All three of our venues (John Henry Newman, Tudor Grange and Smithswood) are bustling with the ages varying form 13-19 year olds and numbers are seeking to increase each week. Headed by Arthur Dawes, this section is absolutely superb and offers free football to local teenagers three times a week.

Youth & Juniors:

It was another fantastic weekend for the Youth & Juniors in the competitive games we played. A record of 12 wins, four draws and six defeats across all ages makes for an impressive return!

The weekend started with the Saturday section and wins for our U10s, U12ís, U14ís and both U15ís teams. The pick of Saturdayís action this weekend goes to our Under 15ís MJPL team who hosted Cookley Sports in the MJPL Trophy Cup. They made light work of this cup draw by cruising past the away team to a 10-1 win!

The weekend finished with the Sunday section and the younger non-competitive teams were all in action in the Spring Cup. A big well done to our U10ís, U11ís Lions, U11ís yellows and U11ís athletic teams who all claimed victoryís in their respective matches!

The pick of the non-competitive action came via our U10ís team who won their final spring cup game 5-2 against Alvechurch Lions. Goals from Clarke, OíHare, Mason (2) and the youngest player of the team Hasker took them top of their group and onto the Spring Cup finals day.

The rest of the Sunday games only saw two losses so it was a great day for the Moors teams.

A special mention this week goes to the U13ís Lions team who are now on a run of 13 games unbeaten. An outstanding run from the lads that, if kept up, will lead you to another league trophy!

In other news, the Youth & Juniors have just completed their annual health check and passed it so we still hold on to the Charter Standard Community Status for another year!
