Lewis Ward proved to be the difference between the two sides at Damson Park, as he thwarted Moors on several occasions to prevent them from taking all three points.

Moors welcomed promotion chasing Aldershot Town to the Automated Technology Stadium on Good Friday, looking to make it ten unbeaten games at home and pick up a vital three points in their bid for survival.

The conditions proved difficult for both teams in the opening exchanges, with both sides failing to create any clear-cut chances. The First real chance of the game fell to Moors when Omari Sterling-James’ cross caused havoc in the Aldershot box, but it was scrambled wide, via a deflection. Jermaine Hylton should have then put the home side in front just moments later. He broke the offside trap and went through one on one with Lewis Ward, but the goalkeeper was quick off his line to deny the striker.

Moors were continuing to assert their dominance in the first half and Jamie Reckord went close but his shot from the edge of the area was deflected wide. Lewis Ward was then called into action once again, this time by Kwame Thomas. Hylton put Thomas clear through, but he was denied by a sprawling Ward, who was proving to be the difference between the two teams.

The sides went in goalless at the break, but it was Moors who should have been ahead at half time after creating a string of good chances against the promotion chasers.

Aldershot had a chance straight from kick off as the second half got underway. An Adam McDonnell corner was met by an unmarked Emmanuel Oyeleke, but his header went just over the bar.  Moors’ first chance of the half fell to Sterling-James, but his free kick from the edge of the area sailed harmlessly wide.

Somehow Moors failed to take the lead in the 55th minute. Jermaine Hylton was firstly denied by an inspired Lewis Ward and from the rebound Adi Yussuf was denied by some heroic defending from the Shots. Moors were continuing to press but could find no way through. Aldershot then went close through Matt McClure, but his shot from a tight angle found the side netting.

Kwame Thomas had another golden opportunity in the 68th minute for Moors. Jamey Osbourne found the striker in acres of space on the right-hand side with a lovely lofted through ball, but Thomas’ low drive was kept out by the legs of Ward.

Moors went close to snatching victory in the 80th minute through Jamey Osbourne. The midfielder picked up the ball thirty yards out and let fly, but his fierce effort was just wide of Lewis Ward’s goal. Josh McQuoid almost won it for the visitors in the last minute with a long-range strike, but it was tipped over by Max O’Leary. From the resulting corner, Moors defended valiantly and preserved their clean sheet.

That’s how it finished at Damson Park, a point gained for Moors as the fight for survival continues. However, it could have been three on a frustrating afternoon in front of goal for Solihull.

Solihull stay just in the bottom four courtesy of Barrow yet again getting a point although it is only goal difference between the teams. On Bank Holiday Monday we travel to Prenton Park the home of promotion hopefuls, Tranmere Rovers. We beat them in the FA trophy at the ATG Stadium having previously lost to them 0 – 2 earlier this season. Our only previous visit to the Birkenhead outfit was a disaster, the memory of which we need to expunge!
