Moors battle through the blizzards to rescue a point -

In a match dominated by wintry weather, Solihull Moors found a late flurry to earn a share of the spoils in a tough basement battle with Torquay United.

A late goal from Adi Yussuf cancelled out a Brett Williams first-half penalty to ensure a point for both teams in their fight for survival in the Vanarama National League.

Moors struggled to find their rhythm as blizzards descended on the Automated Technology Group Stadium. Keeper Max O\'Leary was called into action twice in the opening ten minutes to deny the visitors, firstly a tidy low save from a long range Luke Young effort and then bravely diving at the feet of Williams.

Midway through the half Moors started to exert some pressure and Yussuf was flagged offside when clean through shortly before the striker fashioned a half chance, but his shot was saved low at the near post by Vincent Dorel.

Moors midfielder Jamey Osborne then created a shooting opportunity through a well worked corner routine with captain Darren Carter, but his curling shot flew wide of the right-hand post.

On the half hour, Kyle Storer fed Tyrone Williams down the right and his ball found Yussuf, who turned cleverly and hit a clean strike against the foot of the post with the keeper well beaten.

But five minutes before the break, centre half Fiacre Kelleher lost a 50-50 challenge with Elliott Romain and he fouled the Torquay frontman as he surged into the area. Williams duly stepped up to send O\'Leary the wrong way from the resulting spot kick.

Half-time: Solihull Moors 0-1 Torquay United

The start of the second-half saw Kwame Thomas introduced for Alex Reid but the Moors failed to warm to the task in freezing conditions.

It was Torquay who looked the more threatening and were gifted an open goal on 52 minutes when Moors overplayed the ball at the back and O\'Leary\'s clearance fell to the feet of Young 20 yards out but the keeper recovered to clutch the tame shot from the Gulls midfielder.

As the game reached the latter stages, Moors scrambled out a goalbound shot from Conrad Balatoni and O\'Leary produced two excellent saves to deny Williams and Romain to prevent the visitors from increasing their lead.

With just nine minutes left on the clock, Osborne weaved his way down the right and was brought down. From the free-kick he floated a delightful ball onto the head of Liam Daly and his knock down fell invitingly for Yussuf to poke home the equaliser from inside the six yard box.

A final chance to seal an unlikely three points came in stoppage time when Jermaine Hylton latched onto a flick on from a Daly free kick from deep but his shot flew just inches wide of the upright.

As the final whistle blew the Moors were grateful to come in from the cold with a vital point.
