Solihull Moors extended their unbeaten run to three matches as they held league leaders Macclesfield Town to a 0-0 draw at Moss Rose.

The hosts were looking to extend their lead at the top of the Vanarama National League and made a bright start. Danny Whitaker floated in a corner for George Pilkington who headed just wide, before Mitch Hancox flashed one past Max O’Leary’s left-hand post.

As John Askey’s side continued to probe, Ryan Lloyd found Tyrone Marsh in behind but it was Liam Daly to the rescue as he cleared off the line.

Oladapo Afolayan then went straight up the other end and forced a save from Sam Ramsbottom at his near post. From the resulting corner, Daly found himself at the back post and called the Macc ‘keeper into action once again as the game sprung to life.

It was the home goalkeeper who was called into action just a few minutes later, as Jermaine Hylton found himself free before looking to catch Ramsbottom off his line from distance.

The Moors began to take control of proceedings and could’ve easily found themselves in the lead just before the half hour mark. A long throw from Kristian Green was flicked onto Hylton, who controlled before skewing a shot wide.

The match-winner in the last away game for the Moors – Jamie Reckord – then swung in a free kick which found the head of Fiacre Kelleher, the centre half could only head down into the arms of Ramsbottom.

With the game heading towards the break, there was still time for the home side to muster up an opportunity through Lloyd and Hancox, but O’Leary stood firm twice.

Half-time: Macclesfield Town 0-0 Solihull Moors.

Mark Yates’ men came flying out of the traps after the interval and had a great chance to take the lead. With Macclesfield all over the place at the back, it fell to Shepherd Murombedzi who fired over with Solihull players calling for a penalty as the midfielder fell to the ground – the referee pointed for a goal kick.

Hearts were in mouths as Macclesfield’s number 11, Lloyd, got in behind Reckord and bowed down on goal. He was thwarted not once, but twice by the magnificent O’Leary as the score line remained goalless.

The league leaders then began to show some dominance. Some patient build up play resulted in Hancox finding space in the box before striking straight at O’Leary as Moors were let off the hook.

And the on loan Bristol City stopper was at it again with 20 minutes remaining – this time coming quick off his line to block Elliott Durrell’s attempt.

After two goals in his last two games, skipper Darren Carter fancied his luck after driving forward. This time, though, his powerful attempt was always rising

With the game entering its final stages, Moors found another gear. First Reckord had a chance from a free kick that was smashed into the wall, before Murombedzi found himself free at the back post but couldn’t quite divert past Ramsbottom.

The Silkmen then took their turn to apply the pressure in the dying embers. O’Leary made light work of Scott Wilson’s shot from distance as The Moors held on for an excellent point after an impressive showing at Moss Rose.
